Our Visit to The Lodge
As a child, I always looked forward to summer vacation. Especially the last week of July and first week of August - it was our annual visit to the Lodge located on Balsam Lake. I made lots of friends there, spent my days swimming, causing trouble and our evenings around the campfire and family dances. As I entered my teens, we stopped going - which was disappointing but it wasn't a cheap family vacation for us to go on.
Fast forward to July 2008 - guess where we took the children for a week? It's under new management which is bittersweet, I grew up with the MacDonald's as owners, who never forgot the time "little Leanne went missing - everyone dropped what they were doing and looked for you..." while I was fine, just in another suite with the door closed, they never let me forget what a handful I was!
So we loaded up the van, loaded up Poppa's van and headed off early one Saturday morning. We spent the week swimming, playing in the sand, relaxing in the whirlpool and enjoying meals not cooked by ME! In the evening we watched movies on the big screen TV in the lounge and roasted marshmellows by the fire. The neatest part of all - I grew up with a family there - the Rieflers who always went the same 2 weeks we did - they were up there! The oldest son who is now in his 30's goes with his wife and daughter! So it's like a 4th generation of family - the kids loved it as much as we did! It was fun to spend a week catching up with them - so much that we plan on going back next summer!!
Here's some photos of the kids swimming, tubing, feeding the ducks and playing!
